Submission of Course Rosters Requires the Following:

  • One roster per course (legible and complete with signature)
  • One Student Reporting Form/Skills Sheet for each student (except for HS FA)
  • Written Test Answer Sheet (for HCP only)
  • Course Evaluation Forms
  • $5.00 processing fee per card

BLS Instructor Renewal Requirements (Must be completed PRIOR to expiration date on card)

  1. Teach at 4 courses in 2 years
  2. Maintain provider status (provider card or exam/skills)
  3. Attend updates as required
  4. Be monitored within previous 2 years

NOTE: An Instructor Renewal Course can satisfy 2, 3 and 4.

First Aid Instructor Renewal

  • Maintain BLS instructor status
  • Teach 2 First Aid courses every 2 years (FA with CPR counts as 1 FA and 1 BLS)
  • Be monitored at either BLS or FA course every 2 years

American Heart Association requirements for all BLS courses AHA performs announced “Course Monitoring”

Facility/Class

  • Facility accessible/adequate space
  • Correct student/instructor ratio (per instructor manual)
  • Remediation for all who need it
  • Students must be given opportunity to evaluate the course

Course Content

  • Course outline given to students (consistent with AHA guidelines)
  • Core content covered
  • Skills checklist
  • Adequate skills practice time
  • Current exam
  • Proficiency Tested

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS

  • Each student has appropriate text before, during and after course
  • Required equipment used is in good working order
  • AHA video shown in it’s entirety

  • Waiver is given by TC coordinator for teaching requirement in the event of active duty military status or illness
  • Students with expired cards may take the renewal course but remediation is not allowed. They must pass or take an entire course
  • Lay courses – Book is designed for single use only
  • Healthcare Provider Course – Library of books is permitted
  • Courses can be taught out of state with permission of TC coordinator
  • Red Cross cards are accepted for students enrolling into an AHA renewal course
  • Course Length: varies/all “core content” must be included/maximum time: skills
  • Provide a disclaimer for course fees that are not income to AHA
  • Passing grade for a written exam is 84% for ALL AHA courses
  • Must be Training Center Faculty to conduct an instructor course or monitor an existing instructor
  • Completion of Core Instructor Course is required of all Training Center Faculty and new instructors starting Oct 1, 2006.
