SEMS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
It is the practice of Stamford Emergency Medical Services to select and
promote employees on the basis of their qualifications, without regard to
national origin, age, race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, perceived
sexual orientation, marital or veteran status, physical or mental disabilities
or any other legally protected basis.
HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
STATEMENT
Stamford EMS believes that in order for the company to be successful, its
employees must be successful. As part of that belief, SEMS places an
emphasis on good physical and mental health of our employees. To this end,
SEMS has committed to maintaining a drug free workplace. As part of
maintaining a drug free workplace, every individual offered employment with
SEMS is required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and
physical examination prior to the beginning of employment.
PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE
ASSESSMENT
The treatment and transport of patients in the out of hospital environment poses
serious physical demands on EMS providers. Crews regularly are required to lift
and carry incapacitated patients and heavy equipment. To reduce the
risk of injuries to its employees and patients, SEMS has designed a
post-offer physical performance test. This test is directly derived from EMS
provider job functions that are performed on a daily basis. This test,
using specialized equipment, is administered under the direct supervision of a
Licensed Physical Therapist and is an accurate simulation of the flexibility,
strength and endurance required to work on an ambulance. Successful
completion of this assessment is required for employment with SEMS.
